Review & Refile Previous Tax Returns

Already filed your taxes? There may still be an opportunity to correct or update a previous tax return.

We can review previously filed tax returns to see whether information was missed, reported incorrectly, or whether eligible deductions or credits were not claimed.

What Could Have Been Missed?

There may be deductions, credits, or benefits from previous years that you were eligible for but did not claim, such as:

You had RRSP contribution receipts that were not reported or deducted.

  • FHSA Contributions

  • Medical Expenses
Prescription drugs, dental, vision, certain medical devices, treatments, insurance premiums or other eligible medical expenses may have been overlooked.

  • Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
You or an eligible family member was approved for the DTC, including approval that applies to previous tax years.

  • Disability Amount Transfer
An eligible family member couldn't use all of their disability amount and you may have been eligible to claim a transfer.

  • Caregiver Amounts
You supported an eligible family member and may have qualified for a caregiver-related credit.

  • Child Care Expenses
Daycare, dayhome, babysitting or certain camp expenses were not claimed.

  • Employment Expenses – T2200
You were required to pay eligible work expenses such as certain vehicle, cellphone, supplies, tools, travel or home-office expenses.

  • Tuition – T2202
Tuition information was missing or eligible amounts were not properly reported, transferred or carried forward.

  • Student Loan Interest
Eligible interest paid on government student loans was not claimed.

  • First-Time Home Buyer Amount
You purchased your first qualifying home but did not claim the available home buyers' amount.

    • Moving Expenses
You moved for work, business or qualifying post-secondary education and may have had eligible moving expenses.

  • Rental Property Expenses
Eligible expenses related to earning rental income may have been missed.

  • Self-Employment / Business Expenses
Eligible expenses incurred to earn business or self-employment income may not have been included.

  • Investment Expenses / Carrying Charges

  • Capital Losses
Previous investment losses may be available to apply against taxable capital gains, subject to the applicable rules.

  • Provincial or Territorial Credits
Certain credits based on your province of residence—such as eligible rent, property tax, caregiver, senior or other provincial amounts—may have been missed.

  • Marital Status or Dependents
Changes to your spouse/common-law partner, children or other eligible dependants may affect certain credits and benefits.

Already Filed? There May Still Be Something to Claim.

We've helped hundreds of clients review past tax returns and go back to previous years to claim deductions, credits, and benefits they may have been eligible for but did not claim.

CRA generally allows adjustments to individual tax returns for up to 10 previous calendar years, depending on the claim and eligibility.

Every situation is different, and a review does not guarantee a refund — but it may be worth taking another look.

Already filed doesn't always mean it's too late.
