Common Types of income
Income can come from many different sources. Make sure you tell us about all income you received during the year, even if you did not receive a tax slip.
Employment & Work Income
T4 – Employment Income
Received from your employer. Shows employment income, income tax deducted, CPP, EI and other employment amounts.
T4E – Employment Insurance Benefits
Received if you collected EI, including regular EI, sickness, maternity or parental benefits.
T4A – Other Income
May report different types of income such as commissions, fees for services, scholarships, pensions and other payments.
T4A – Box 20 or Box 48
May relate to self-employment, commission or fees for services. If it is self-employment income, eligible expenses may be deductible.
Government & Benefit Income
T4 – Employment Income

Amounts received or withdrawn from an RRSP.
T4RIF – RRIF Income
Amounts received or withdrawn from a Registered Retirement Income Fund.
FHSA Income / Withdrawals
Reports certain FHSA withdrawals and other reportable amounts.
T4FHSA – First Home Savings Account
Reports certain FHSA withdrawals and other reportable amounts.
T4A-RCA – Retirement Compensation Arrangement
Certain payments received from a Retirement Compensation Arrangement.

Self-Employment & Business Income
Business / Self-Employment Income
Income from operating your own business, contracting, freelancing, providing services or doing side jobs.4A – Box 20 or Box 48. May relate to self-employment, commission or fees for services. Eligible expenses may be deductible depending on the situation.
Cash Income
Business or service income received in cash may still need to be reported.
Online Business / Sales
Income earned from selling goods or providing services online may need to be reported.
Rental Property Income
Income received from renting a house, condo, basement suite, room, or other property.
No Tax Slip?
Income may still need to be reported even if you did not receive a tax slip. Tell us about all income you received during the year. If you're unsure, provide the information to us and we can determine how it should be reported.
